A new school year is underway, bringing fresh opportunities for learning, growth and community. Here in Little Flower, we're fortunate to have two schools as part of our neighborhood: St. Therese Little Flower Catholic School and Scecina Memorial High School. As students, families, teachers and staff settle into new routines, we all have a role to play in helping make this a safe and successful school year.
Even if you don't have children in school, you may notice more activity throughout the neighborhood during the morning and afternoon hours. Students will be walking, biking, waiting for buses and being dropped off or picked up by family members. A little extra awareness can go a long way toward keeping everyone safe.
Slow Down 🦥
School zones and neighborhood streets can become much busier when school is in session. Observe posted speed limits, especially in school zones, and give yourself a little extra travel time so you don't feel rushed. A few extra seconds behind the wheel can make a big difference.
Stay Alert 🚨
Children can be unpredictable and may cross the street unexpectedly or emerge from between parked vehicles. Keep an eye out for crossing guards, pedestrians and cyclists, especially during arrival and dismissal times. If you're backing out of a driveway or parking space, take an extra moment to check your surroundings.
Put Distractions Away 📵
Whether you're driving, biking or walking, staying focused helps everyone stay safe. Put your phone away while driving and avoid other distractions so you can react quickly if needed.
Be a Good Neighbor 🎒
The beginning of the school year is an exciting time, and it can also be an adjustment for families and neighbors alike. Patience, courtesy and kindness help create a welcoming environment for everyone. If you notice a safety concern such as a damaged sidewalk, missing traffic sign or other hazard, consider reporting it through the appropriate city channels so it can be addressed.
Wishing Our Schools a Wonderful Year 🚌
The Little Flower Neighborhood Association wishes the students, families, teachers and staff at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic School and Scecina Memorial High School a safe, healthy and successful school year. We're grateful for the important role these schools play in our neighborhood and the positive impact they have on our community.
