Heavy Trash Pickup in Little Flower

Little Flower has two DPW trash pickup routes. The dividing streets are Grant, from 10th to 12th, and Chester from 12th to 16th. If you live west of these streets, your regular trash pickup day is Thursday, with heavy trash pickup on the second Thursday of the month. If you live east of these streets, your regular trash pickup day is Monday, with heavy trash pickup on the fourth Monday of the month.

If you put your trash out on your heavy trash day and it's not picked up - call the Mayor's Action Center at 317-327-4622 to report it. The more people who report it, the better!

On your heavy trash pickup day, you can place two heavy trash items out for collection. Place items on the curb next to your trash bin. Heavy trash items generally consist of bulky items that would not fit into your trash cart. Common items include:

  • Household furniture, like a couch, desk, dresser, table, and chairs

  • Mattresses

  • Box springs

  • Appliances without Freon, such as a stove or water heater (for appliances with Freon, contact the Department of Public Works to arrange pickup)

  • Disassembled bicycles and swing sets

  • Automobile tires mounted on their rims/wheels

  • Lawnmowers (gas and oil must be drained)

  • Yard waste (bundled limbs 3 feet in diameter and 3 feet long count as one heavy trash item)

  • Television shell (all electronic components must be removed prior to pick-up for consideration) (Citizens should also consider recycling unwanted electronics, including televisions, at an electronics recycling site. See next page for info.)

Construction debris will not be accepted as heavy trash!

If the items are not acceptable for pickup, your service provider will notify you with a tag that explains how to meet the pickup requirements.

Have more than two pieces of heavy trash? You can dispose of extra household trash, heavy trash, and bags of leaves at the Marion County Citizens’ Transfer Station. The fee is $2 per carload, or $5 per SUV or pickup truckload (Cash Only). You can make up to two trips per day. Moving trucks, dual axles, trailers, haulers, stake-bed trucks, and truckloads larger than 3/4 ton are not permitted. The transfer center is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 2324 S. Belmont Ave.
