One Year of Little Flower Litter League

Hi Neighbors,
My name is Buffy Stout, and just over a year ago I had the honor of starting a litter cleaning initiative in our neighborhood. Since moving to Little Flower 3 years ago, I’ve been lucky enough to have close proximity to neighborhood goings-on with my partner being on the board. I immediately loved being a part of all the different events that the board put on to bring neighbors together. I feel so at home in this neighborhood and happen to think it is one of the best in the city.
After participating in the board’s annual neighborhood cleanup for the second year in a row, I had an idea: Why couldn’t this be a more regular occurrence? Since I was a kid, I’ve loved cleaning up and organization - is there a way I could use those interests to benefit my community?
I mentioned my idea to board members who were immediately supportive, and the Little Flower Litter League was born. The concept involved dividing the neighborhood into six equally sized areas, and tackling one area every other month, effectively cleaning the whole neighborhood in one calendar year.

We started out by divvying up our collected bags of trash into our bins and kind friends bins, but now the incredible J Clyde’s has become a partner and lets us use their dumpster for our collected bags of trash. Local realtor Brittany Faulkner also connected with us and started providing coffee and donuts for volunteers.
We have learned a lot over the past year - which areas of the neighborhood to tackle during which season, which parts of certain areas are a better use of time, and how incredible our neighbors are! We’ve had the opportunity to connect with neighbors who come to volunteer and neighbors we met along the way that we never would’ve met otherwise. In total, we collected 61 bags of trash, and had 44 volunteer shifts.
If you have ever thought about coming to one of our cleanups, consider joining us during year two! We would love to hand you a vest and grabber and make you a part of the Litter League.
See you February 21st at 9am for our first cleanup of 2026!
Buffy Stout
